Van Dijk becomes the second successive Liverpool player to collect the prize following Salah’s extraordinary 2017/18 campaign.Sterling, however, has not been left empty handed and a fine individual season has seen him named Football Writers’ Player of the Year.Van Dijk and Sterling have been the Premier League’s standout performers, with Liverpool and City locked in a relentless race for the league title.City have a one-point advantage on the final day and will retain their crown with victory at Brighton, while Liverpool must get a result against Wolves and hope for the best.
